STRESS and the Gut/Brain
Studies have shown that stress depletes essential minerals, and affects digestion, causing imbalances and disease due to a chronic inflammatory response in the body. A cycle of nutrient depletion causing stress and stress causing nutrient depletion can be devastating. In this day and age we are living under unusually chronic or high levels of stress and many of us are affected by this cycle without even being aware of it. Studies have also shown that if a person is lacking essential nutrients, the brain's capacity to deal with stress is drastically reduced, and this can be a major cause of alterations in brain chemistry, causing all sorts of emotional and mental issues. Our major life choices are made from our thoughts and states of emotion, which if out of balance and without clarity of mind, can cause great suffering in ourselves or in others.
Our state of mind, emotions and thoughts are so important that they literally dictate our most important choices all throughout our lives; the choice of friends as a teenager and the choice of attitude; whether we try drugs or alcohol or whether we go to college or university or drop out of school; who or if we marry and our capacity to cope and how we conduct ourselves in relationships, marriage and child rearing; whether we divorce, how we handle pressure, our energy levels, which jobs we choose, whether we excel or fail in our career, our state of finances, whether, as adults we turn to alcohol or drugs or indulge in other addictions or not, and how we take care of ourselves.....the list is endless.
Everything and all of our choices can be affected by our health which dictates our state of mind and whether we have clarity and control over our thoughts, emotions and attitudes which in turn dictates the outer circumstances that show up in our lives.
We literally ARE what we eat and have what we have because of it!
Symptoms of stress affecting the body include reduced immune function, increased inflammation, high blood pressure, problems with blood sugar levels and hormonal balance.

Craving alcohol, sweets and carbs in an attempt to re-balance the agitated state of the body and nervous system has been documented as due to nutritional imbalances as well.
